The Ħolqa Festival Production Team is in charge of the organisation and running of Ħolqa International Youth Arts Festival. Starting as a theatre festival for students in 2014, Ħolqa has expanded its wings to incorporate a wider variety of art forms, including: dance, music, literature, drama, performing arts and visual art. Ħolqa is usually held in March. The chair of the production team is the artistic director of the festival.
Ħolqa aims to create a cultural space for students, principally 16 to 19 years of age, from different socio-economic backgrounds and countries, including those who are in some way disadvantaged, to come together to share ideas, views and culture through their artistic expression.
The Festival aims to provide students with a myriad of opportunities:
- to showcase their artistic and creative talents in the various creative arts
- to improve their artistic skills
- to raise awareness through themes which are of interest to this age group
- to provide a platform for intercultural collaboration
- to follow performances as part of a holistic educational programme
- to strengthen the national and international collaboration of the Junior College with other educational institutions.
The aims this Production Team are to:
- organise the logistics of the festival
- seek collaboration with international partners
- seek collaboration with other national partners and stakeholders
- seek collaboration with College and UM groups or societies
- seek sponsorships and funding
- market and publicise the festival
- ensure that JC students participate in all the streams of the festival
- use Ħolqa as a platform to discuss/present social issues
- run the festival
- evaluate the processes and practices involved.
