Medicine, Introduction to (X008) is an Enrichment Programme Unit for students who are interested in medicine and health care.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of this unit, students should be able to:
- record and interpret simple clinical signs (such as blood pressure, pulse, temperature, blood glucose levels...) and become cognisant of the major skills which are important in clinical medicine (such as communication, listening, pattern recognition, logical inference, evaluation of evidence and objectivity)
- understand the scope of medical education and its multi-disciplinary approach, taking a series of short case-studies in cardiovascular medicine and other areas
- feel prepared for their prospective medical course by laying out the structure, requirements and key elements of the course of medicine at UM
- situate their prospective medical education within a historical, cultural and ethical context.

The sessions include lectures, hand-on practice of clinical skills and a final oral presentation.
