Night at the Museum (X006) is an Enrichment Programme Unit for students who are interested in museums, conservation and classification.
This unit is of particular interest to biology students.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of this unit, students should be able to:
- sort and identify conchological material
- clean and document excavated material from Ghar Dalam
- appreciate and gain knowledge on palaeontology of the Maltese Islands
- appreciate and gain knowledge on entomology
- view and identify organisms that are extinct and understand reason for extinction
- identify changes in morphology of organisms in the process of evolution
- classify organisms in their respective taxonomic groups.

Activities include a behind the scenes tour of the Natural History Museum with questions and answers. Viewing of various specimens. This is followed by various hands on activities like plant pressing, sorting and identification of bones amongst others.
Additional benefits
Behind the scenes tour of the museum and students get to learn new things and acquire insight of what is done at the Natural History Museum.
Conditions
- Registration is on a first come first served basis, but preference will be given to second year advanced biology students.
- About 10 students will be accepted, even though the number may vary slightly depending on the requests of the Natural History Museum.
Registration/Participation fees
€40 participation fee applies. The amount may be even less and will be confirmed by the Biology Subject Coordinator.
