 FAQs for Spanish Intermediate Matriculation Level

Spanish is the second language most spoken in the world. Studying this foreign language opens wide the opportunities to learn not only the language but also to come in touch with the culture of all the countries where it is spoken. Besides, having a good command of the language can be an asset when looking for a job in the future years. 
You may start studying Spanish at Intermediate level but having prior knowledge of the language is an asset.  It is strongly recommended that you expose yourself to the language in preparation to the course. 
Spanish at Intermediate level aims at consolidating the 4 language skills, that is, speaking, listening, reading and writing. All this is carried out in conjunction with the revision and introduction of new grammatical content. The students will study one literature work while culture content in embedded during other activities. All the above allows the students to prepare for the MATSEC Intermediate level exam. 
Although MATSEC gives the opportunities to the students, the course is planned to be completed over 2 academic years. Hence, the students would not have completed all the necessary content to sit for the exam. We strongly recommend that a candidate sits for the MATSEC exam at the end of the two-year course.  
We shall use a set textbook for language. A copy of the literature work is also needed. Other complimentary material shall be handed over to the students when necessary. For an updated booklist, click the red link. 
Students must attend two lectures on a weekly basis.

FAQs for Spanish Advanced Matriculation Level
Spanish is the second language most spoken in the world. Studying this foreign language opens wide the opportunities to learn not only the language but also to come in touch with the culture of all the countries where it is spoken. Besides, it gives you the opportunity to work in several fields such as education, tourism, translation and interpretation amongst others. Besides, at present, in Malta there are several Spanish companies who are also recruiting individuals and having a good command of the Spanish language is undoubtedly an asset. 
The advanced course aims at consolidating the four language skills, that is, speaking, listening, reading and writing. All this is carried out in conjunction with the revision and introduction of new grammatical content. A cultural component is also included. Finally, the students will study two literature works. All the above allows the students to prepare for the MATSEC A level exam.  Click for more information.
A pass at SEC level is surely an asset to further your studies in the language. 
Students have a total of 5 lectures and 1 tutorial on a weekly basis. 
During tutorials different tasks are assigned to practice different skills in the language. It allows for more interaction between the lecturer and the student as usually classes are split in smaller groups.
