 FAQs for German Intermediate Matriculation Level

German is a highly important language in Europe and is the most widely spoken mother language in the European Union. There are also a good number of German businesses across many fields operating from Malta and German speaking tourists are frequent visitors to our islands as well. A good knowledge of German at Intermediate level would support you alongside your future career in many fields. Being an engineer, a doctor, an accountant, a designer, a musician, or a graduate in any other field whilst also having an Intermediate level in German would possibly open several employment opportunities in Malta and abroad. 
You would be admitted to the course of studies but the Intermediate level German builds on knowledge and skills obtained at SEC level or equivalent, so it is advisable to have that level. 
You will have 2 lectures every week. During these lectures, all four language skills and cultural elements of your syllabus will be covered. 
You will be building upon the reading, listening, speaking and writing skills obtained at SEC level. You shall also be studying elements of German culture including its feasts and traditions, its food, its modern history, geography, school system and also about products Made in Germany.  For a detailed syllabus for German at Intermediate Level click the red link.  
No, there is no literary component in German at Intermediate level.

No, there are no suggested textbooks for culture. You would be supported by being given notes and be guided to do your own research in the field. The lecturers know that this would possibly be the first time you would be studying German culture in depth.

FAQs for German Advanced Matriculation Level

German is a highly important language in Europe and is the most widely spoken mother language in the European Union. There are also a good number of German businesses across many fields operating from Malta and German speaking tourists are frequent visitors to our islands as well. Knowledge of German at Advanced Level opens many opportunities for studies at university level in the various Departments and Institutes at UM. Always check the entry requirements for your future course of studies.
A pass in SEC German is highly recommended if you intend to study German at Advanced Level. 
You will have six sessions of German every week, during which all four language skills, the cultural elements of your syllabus and the literary text will be dealt with.  
You will be guided to consolidate your reading, listening, speaking and writing skills to the level required at MATSEC Advanced level. You shall also be studying elements of German culture under four categories which include the following topics: Germany`s traditional feasts and traditions, its food, its modern history, geography, school system, sports in Germany, people playing an important role in the development of German language and literature and also about products Made in Germany.  A literary text is also studied. You do not have to be! This is a common situation for most students, so the literary text will be approached gradually, and you will be guided throughout the text to support your understanding.
