FAQs for French Intermediate Matriculation Level 

Studying French at both Intermediate and Advanced Level serves as an excellent grounding knowledge for those students aiming to pursue their studies at university level in Humanities, Law, Education, Tourism, Translation and Interpreting, Media and Communication, as well as other disciplines. 
You may start studying French at Intermediate level but having a background of a secondary school course is an asset.  Otherwise, it is strongly recommended that you expose yourself frequently to the language during the duration of the course. 
You will be prepared in speaking skills, writing skills (essay writing, summarizing texts, grammar) as well as reading and studying a novella, and tackling some French civilisation themes. For more information on French IM syllabus, click the red link.
No, there is no poetry. 
Yes, MATSEC allows you this prerogative but in one year, your course will only have covered half the curriculum.  We strongly recommend that a candidate tackles the MATSEC exam at the end of the 2-year course.  Better results are obtained in this way.

You must attend three lectures:  a language lecture, a grammar lecture, and a literature/civilisation lecture.

There are contact hours for the students who wish to meet any lecturer and discuss anything which interests them or worries them. Just book a contact hour with your lecturer.

FAQs for French Advanced Matriculation Level

The Advanced level course aims at consolidating your speaking, comprehension, analysis and writing abilities to the level required by the MATSEC exam.  In addition to this, you will study some short stories, a novel, a play, and some French civilisation themes. No, there is no poetry. 
You must attend five lessons (oral practice, written comprehension, grammar, and two literature lessons), plus one tutorial session. 
A tutorial is a small group of students accompanied by a tutor in which practical and written tasks are assigned, corrected, commented on, and personal feedback given.
