Garbage Art Project - From Waste to Art Installation (K025) is an Enrichment Programme Unit for students who are: passionate about art, design, and creativity; interested in environmental sustainability and climate action; who enjoy hands-on projects and teamwork; curious about public art and installation art; Students who want to develop leadership and project management skills through creative work and students who want to make a visible, positive contribution to their college environment.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of this unit, students should be able to:
- understand the environmental impact of wood, plastic, or metal waste, and the importance of sustainable art practices
- apply creative and critical thinking to transform discarded materials into meaningful artistic expressions
- collaboratively design, construct, and install a site-specific public artwork using waste materials
- enhance communication, teamwork, and planning skills through real-world artistic collaboration
- reflect on the role of contemporary art in promoting environmental awareness and social change.

Further details
Students are expected to attend at least 70% of sessions and participate actively in design, construction, and installation phases. Students are also expected to collaborate respectfully with peers and follow all safety guidelines and engage in discussions and reflection on the creative process.
The sessions are organised as follows:
- Session 1 (2 hrs): Introduction to Sustainable Art and Material Awareness
- Session 2 (2 hrs): Design Thinking Workshop (Concepts & Sketching)
- Session 3 (2 hrs): Exploring Materials – Wood, Plastic & Metal in Art
- Sessions 4–5 (4 hrs): Collaborative Building, Installation, and Reflection
