Linguistics Olympiad JC (C025) is an Enrichment Programme Unit for students who are interested in problem solving, code breaking and linguistics.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of this unit, students should be able to:
- solve linguistics puzzles which include pattern matching and code breaking
- prepare for the Linguistics Olympiad Malta (LOM) competition organised by the Institute of Linguistics at the University of Malta.

Further details
Students are expected to attend problem solving sessions at JC, participate in Round 1 of the Linguistics Olympiad Malta Competition which is a team competition. Students are also expected to participate in Round 2 which is an individual competition. Both rounds are organised by the Institute of Linguistics at the University of Malta.
Additional benefits
There is the possibility of representing Malta at the International Linguistics Olympiad (IOL), which is held annually in a different country. This is a team competition made up of Sixth Form students from different Maltese educational institutions.
Conditions
The unit will be offered if there are four or more students registering.
Registration/Participation fees
- First come, first served basis.
- No registration fees are required.
- They might be fees associated with traveling abroad. All information will be given in due time.
