Philosophy is a discipline which asks fundamental questions about all areas of human activity, while seeking to offer possible answers to such questions.

It deals with questions such as: How should one live? What am I? Are all persons human? Am I responsible for my actions? Can we ever know anything? Can we think without language? Can a machine think?

The study of philosophy as a discipline is a journey in two directions: it invites us to look outwards in an attempt to make sense of the reality around us, and it encourages us to look within us so as to understand, form and express ourselves and our own ideas better.

Philosophy is a fascinating subject that will help students develop valuable skills in reasoning, problem solving and communication. Students learn how to analyse a problem from different perspectives and build logical and coherent arguments. It also invites students to explore how it relates to and complements other subjects such as the Sciences, Languages, Humanities, Art, Literature, Law, Politics, and many more. Studying Philosophy strengthens the development of a deeper, critical reflection on practical issues in everyday life.

You may study Philosophy at either Advanced or Intermediate level. No previous knowledge of the subject is required.
