Rainbow Workshops

Rainbow Workshops (S005) is an Enrichment Programme Unit for students who are interested in LGBTIQ issues and who would like to broaden their knowledge and awareness about these issues, and to contribute to the organisations of IDAHOT activities at JC. 


Learning Outcomes

By the end of this unit, students should be able to:

  • know what LGBTIQ+ stands for
  • distinguish the different flags of the LGBTIQ+ community
  • understand the historical and cultural context of the LGBTIQ+ movement
  • understand the work of various international organisations working in the field of LGBTIQ+ rights
  • understand the current situation of the LGBTIQ+ community on a global level
  • understand common issues experienced by members of the LGBTIQ+ community such as sexual health issues, bullying, discrimination as well as coming out
  • organise a creative activity in collaboration with the Diversity Committee for the occasion of IDAHOT - the International Day against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia which is held every year at JC around the 17 May.

2 hours every month between January and May

Further details

Students are expected to attend the sessions, to share knowledge and experiences on the topic; to participate in discussions and workshops; to contribute to the IDAHOT activity including on the day of the activity (around 17 May). More information about the Diversity Committee is available through the website

The sessions shall be distributed as follows:

  • 1 x 1 hr introductory session
  • 1 x 6 hrs presentation/workshop sessions
  • 1 x 2 hours planning and coordinating IDAHOT activity
  • 1 x 1 hr wrapping up and evaluation. 

Additional benefits

Students following this unit will obtain a basic holistic picture of LGBTIQ+ issues on both a local and a global level which will equip them with the necessary knowledge and skills that may be utilised in their future careers, regardless of the path they take.  

 

Conditions 

  • A minimum of 15 students is required to run the unit. The unit shall not take more that 40 participants.
  • Registration is on a first come, first served basis. 
  • Participants must ensure that the sessions take place in a safe and respectful environment conducive to sharing.
