Studying at Junior College - Admissions 2017

Applying to join as a First Year student

Prospective students applying for the first time, including candidates awaiting SEC September session results or results of other examination boards, are invited to submit their application for admission in October 2017 online by logging on www.jc.um.edu.mt/apply between Tuesday 1st and Tuesday 8th August 2017. The user name and login password can be found on the SEC result slip. An application fee of €23.30 is payable by credit card.

Applicants who do not have access to the Internet or who require any assistance to complete the application online, may make use of computers available at the Student Services Office (SSO) Room B104, on Friday 4th August 2017 between 08.30 and 12.30 hours.

Late applications

Late applications may be submitted online by logging on www.jc.um.edu.mt/apply between Wednesday 9th and Tuesday 15th August 2017, against a fee of €46.60 payable by credit card.

Very late applications

Applicants may fill in a very late application form available at the SSO, between Wednesday 16th August and Friday 22nd September 2017. A fee of €116.50 is applicable.

After this date and under extraordinary circumstances, the Administration may accept applications until Friday 20th October 2017, against a fee of €125.00.

On being accepted as a Junior College student

 Applicants who satisfy the entry requirements for admittance to the Junior College will receive a letter of acceptance. In order to confirm their intention of coming to the College, the applicant will be asked to deposit  €24 Caution Money by credit card, before being registered as a Junior College student. The Caution Money is refunded after the student completes the full course at the College, however it will be forfeited if the student causes any damage or loss to equipment or property.

If the student decides to withdraw their application, they are required to fill in a ‘Withdrawal Form’ available on the Junior College website and forward the completed form, as soon as possible, to the SSO. 

Request for change of subject/s – First Year

Applicants who, after submitting their application, would like to change a subject/s, may do so by filling in the ‘Change of Options Form - Year 1’ which is available on the Junior College website. Requests will be received at the SSO, between Wednesday 9th August and Friday 20th October 2017. Requests for change of subject/s will not be accepted after this date. A fee of €12.00 is applicable. 

Repeating a Year

Students, who cannot proceed with their studies or wish to improve their grades, may repeat their first year once and may also repeat their second year once. In the event that a student has to repeat a year, the student’s general performance and attendance during the previous year/s will be taken into consideration. Students may not be allowed to repeat the year if it is felt that, based on their track record, it would not be beneficial to them.

Junior College student repeating First Year

Junior College students who would like to repeat their First Year are requested to fill in an application  available from the SSO. Completed applications are to be submitted at the same office between Monday 21st and Tuesday 22nd August 2017 between 08.30 and 12.30 hours.

Students awaiting  Junior College re-sit results may apply immediately after these are published in September. Students can only repeat their 1st year once during their course of studies.

Applicants are required to present their I.D. card and two passport-size recent photographs. An application fee of €23.30 is applicable.

Junior College student repeating Second Year 

Students who completed their course of study at the College and would like to repeat their Second Year, are requested to fill in an application available from the SSO. 

Applications are to be submitted at the same office between Monday 21st and Tuesday 22nd August 2017  from  08.30 to 12.30 hours.

Students awaiting  MATSEC September session results may apply immediately after results are published.

Applicants are required to present their I.D. card and its photocopy, two passport-size recent photographs as well as the original and photocopy of their MATSEC June/September  2016 result slip. An application fee of €23.30 is applicable. Students can only repeat once during their course of studies.

Request for change of subject/s – Second Years

Students who are promoted to Second Year after the End-of-Year Exams first sitting and who would like to request a change of subject/s, should do so by Friday 25th August. 2017. Students who submit their request by this date will receive information on whether their request has been acceded to, during the last week of September.

Second Year students may also request a change of subject/s at a later stage, between Monday 11th September and Friday 20th October 2017.

Students are to fill in the ‘Change of Options Form – Year 2’ which is available on the Junior College website.  A fee of €12 is applicable.

Students who make a request for a change of subject/s are expected to make up for and take full responsibility for the subject matter/projects/practicals and other educational experiences covered at Junior College during the First Year. Approval is not automatic but subject to administrative constraints as well as the endorsement of the respective subject coordinator.

Non-Junior College students repeating First Year at Junior College

Students who commenced/completed their First Year at another educational institution and would like to repeat their First Year at Junior College are to apply as prospective students applying for the first time.

Non-Junior College students commencing Second Year at Junior College

Students who completed their First Year of the Matriculation Certificate course at another educational institution and have been promoted to Second Year, may apply to join Junior College as Second Year students. They must satisfy the entry requirements for Junior College.

Applicants are to fill in the ‘Request to commence Second Year at Junior College’ form available on the Junior College website and submit it at the SSO between Monday 21st and Tuesday 22nd August 2017 from 08.30 to 12.30 hours. An application fee of €23.30 is applicable.

Requests for commencing Second Year at Junior College does not mean that approval is automatic but is subject to administrative constraints. Applicants are expected to make up for and take full responsibility for the subject matter/projects/practicals and other educational experiences covered during their First Year at Junior College. 

Non-Junior College students repeating Second Year at Junior College

Students who have completed their full Matriculation Certificate course at another educational institution and would like to repeat Second Year at Junior College may apply to join Junior College as Second Year students. They must satisfy the entry requirements for Junior College.

Applicants are to fill in the ‘Request to repeat Second Year at Junior College’ form available on the Junior College website and submit it at the SSO between  Monday 21st and Tuesday 22nd August 2017 from 08.30 to 12.30 hours. An application fee of €23.30 is applicable.

Requests for repeating Second Year at Junior College does not mean that approval is automatic but is subject to administrative constraints. Applicants are expected to make up for and take full responsibility for the subject matter/projects/practicals and other educational experiences covered at Junior College during the First Year. 

Request to be exempted from subjects

Students who succeed in obtaining a pass in any subject/s at MATSEC level are eligible to be exempted from the subject/s during their time at the College. They are to fill in the ‘Request to be exempted from subject/s’ form which is available on the Junior College website. The form must be presented at the SSO, together with the original result slip/certificate and its photocopy.  Requests will not be acceded to after Friday 20th October 2017. An administration fee of €12.00 is applicable.

Important note

All application fees are non-refundable.
