Students' Information Management System launched at Ġ.F. Abela Junior College
The Students' Information Management System (SIMS) and the Students' Portal (eSIMS) have been launched for first year students who are preparing themselves to sit for the Matriculation Certificate at the end of the two year course held at the Ġan Franġisk Abela Junior College.
The Student Information Management System (SIMS) software is a comprehensive software programme used by the University of Malta to record and facilitate the management of data accumulated during the students’ study period. Thus Junior College students will be offered similar services to those offered to University students.
The students’ portal was officially launched during the first week of January 2010. This portal can be accessed from any computer connected to the Internet. The portal can be accessed from the official website of the college or by clicking directly on the link www.jc.um.edu.mt/esims. The portal offers the facility to all Year 1 students to access their personal and course details. Students are also able to view their subject registrations and their assessment results.
The first assessment results were published on the eSIMS portal on 6 January 2010. Students were advised to inform their parents / guardians about the publication of the assessment results.
It is envisaged that in the future, the college will launch other online services for current and prospective students.
Work on this project was undertaken by staff at the college, SIMS Office and IT Services staff.
